A $30 million venture capital fund has its first general partner.
The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) announced Tuesday that Greg Robinson will manage 4490 Ventures, which was created in March 2013 to invest in IT companies primarily in Wisconsin.
“Greg brings a wealth of technology, operating and investment experience, as well as a network of
contacts from his days at Peninsula Ventures,” Michael Williamson, SWIB executive director, said in a statement. “We are excited to have Greg as a member of our team and look forward to working with him.”
According to a release, SWIB and WARF are tasking Robinson with identifying investment themes, sourcing new investment opportunities, serving on boards of new investments he leads and acting as a mentor and advisor to startups.
Robinson previously served as a a partner at Peninsula Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm in Redwood City, Calif. The graduate of Arizona State University and Dartmouth has more than 20 years of operating and venture capital experience.
