The Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub secured $49 million in funding from Phase 2 of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development and Administration (EDA) Regional Technology and Innovations Hub (Tech Hub) program, the organization announced today.
According to a release, the funds will be used to develop and deploy biohealth solutions and on initiatives to enhance manufacturing coordination, advance critical genomic technology and foster talent development in the biohealth sector.
Led by BioForward Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub is a consortium of 18 Wisconsin businesses, educational institutions, civic leaders and entrepreneurs. The organization received Phase 1 designation in Oct. 2023.
“This Phase 2 award represents a significant opportunity for Wisconsin to showcase its strengths across many sectors of our biohealth industry and statewide manufacturing capabilities,” BioForward CEO Lisa Johnson said in a statement. “We make things in Wisconsin, and we make things happen—through this EDA tech hub initiative, Wisconsin will be delivering results on the EDA’s mission to enhance economic and national security and global competitiveness in the years to come.”
The Biohealth Tech Hub has also secured $7.5 million in state funding and $24 million from industry commitments. It is projected to help create more than 30,000 jobs and $9 billion worth of economic development through this funding within 10 years.
