Anyone with toddlers knows how frequently they drop their eating utensils. Quintin Radford saw it firsthand after having a meal with his niece and nephew and decided to solve that problem with his invention called the Sporklet.
Radford is currently trying to raise $32,000 through Kickstarter by Jan. 16 to manufacture the combination fork and spoon that has a wrist band attached. The Sporklet is produced under Radford’s company, Uensil.
“Uensil aims to inspire the way we eat,” Radford said. “This is what I am most dedicated to. I believe that eating utensils offer an opportune medium to inform and delight.”
Radford said he became increasingly interested in nutrition and diet, especially after a stint at Whole Foods. He turned his back on a potential career in commercial illustrations following a “bunch of different inspirations,” including the meal with his niece and nephew.
The Sporklet is designed for children ages nine months and older. It includes a safety quick-release on the wristband and will be manufactured, assembled and packaged in Verona, Wis., and East Troy, Wis., should the fundraising goal be met.
Pledges on the Kickstarter campaign range from $4-$600.
