Exact Sciences is staying on the west side.
The biotech company is planning to expand its footprint at its current headquarters at University Research Park rather than expand downtown, according to CEO Kevin Conroy.
“I’m excited to announce a continued collaboration with the City of Madison … to attempt to establish a biotech campus in Madison,” Conroy said at a press conference. “If we’re not going to be downtown, we’re awfully happy to be at University Research Park.”
Conroy explained that the expansion would come in the form of an estimated 60,000-90,000 square-foot space that connects to Exact Sciences’ office at 441 Charmany Dr. No firm timeline was announced.
Exact Sciences would have been the anchor tenant of a 1 million square-foot mixed-use space in Judge Doyle Square.
“The City understands and respects the reasons that Exact Sciences will not be moving its corporate headquarters to the downtown,” Madison Mayor Paul Soglin said in a statement. “I am encouraged that the company plans to focus its future facility planning in the City of Madison at University Research Park.”
Exact Sciences currently has 425 Madison-based employees.
