Amulet, which makes portable electrochemical food sensors, has been awarded an SBIR grant for its sensor that detects gluten in food, the company announced today.
“Gluten-related disorders are rapidly on the rise,” Amulet CEO Abigail Barnes said in a statement. “Our goal at Amulet is to provide consumers with a tool to help them avoid gluten, and in turn, better manage their health.”
According to a release, the sensor is calibrated to detect gluten at 20 parts per million, which is what is required by the Food and Drug Administration to be labeled gluten-free.
The amount of the grant was not disclosed.
In June, Amulet was awarded an SBIR grant for detecting histamine in fish.
