Curds on the Whey is a domestic delivery service, bringing cheese curds straight to your door. The company, which was founded in 2015 by Jeff Cullen, Scott Kesling and brothers Tommy and Bobby Marshment-Howell, aims to deliver cheese curds to both Wisconsinites who have left the state and “cheese nerds” nationwide.
The founders developed the concept of cheese curd delivery initially as a way to test product development for a web design and consultation company three of them run, and they ended up approaching a local cheese maker.
“We are big fans of Farmer John of Farmer John’s Cheese, and he was open to letting us test this crazy idea with him,” Bobby Marshment-Howell said.
The company selectively picks varieties of curds from cheese producers throughout Wisconsin, changing the cheese each month. Cheese lovers can make a one-time order, send curds as a gift or enroll in a monthly subscription. Packages are 2-4 lbs. (each pound is comprised of a different cheese) and range froom $15-$25.
The curds are shipped mid-month on Monday or Tuesday with the hopes of reaching the customer on Wednesday. Curds on the Whey sets up delivery or pickup with the selected farmer on the same day as shipping to ensure freshness. The curds are then shipped with ice packs in custom packages, depending on order size.
In the future, the founders of Curds on the Whey hope to include a secret fried curd batter recipe with delivery and organize sign-up specials that include a frying kit. They plan to source their curds from all over Wisconsin so there will not be limitations from a production standpoint.
“Our goal is for customers to try the great variety of cheese curds that cheese makers around the state produce,” Marshment-Howell said. “Each farmer has a different kind of milk and recipe for making curds, so there is quite a variety.”
