Exact Sciences announced today that former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has joined its board of directors.
“Secretary Sebelius understands the value of detecting cancer earlier, as well as the systemic challenges and opportunities to improve healthcare,” Exact Sciences Chairman and CEO Kevin Conroy said in a statement. “As we work to deliver life-changing innovations in earlier cancer detection, her experience and perspectives will be essential to helping us develop practical, next-generation tests for the screening, diagnosis and monitoring of cancers.”
According to a release, Sebelius currently runs a strategic consulting firm that advises private companies, non-profit organizations and investors. The former governor of Kansas also serves on the boards of two biopharmaceutical companies and is the co-chair of the Aspen Institute Health Strategy Group.
Sebelius joins nine other board members, including one other former governor (Jim Doyle).
