Linectra, maker of a high-resolution and high-throughput 3D metal printer, was named the winner of the second annual Transcend Madison startup competition for University of Wisconsin students held March 29-30.
The team consisting of CEO Brandon Walker, COO Nate Schumacher, CSO Rock Mackie and CTO Tye Grib beat out more than 30 other competitors to win the $10,000 grand prize.
“It’s very awe-inspiring to see all the ideas, innovation and the problems you’ve identified and chosen to take on, as well as the amount of time you’ve dedicated and the effort and passion you’ve shown,” Qualcomm Senior Director of Engineering and Competition Judge Steve Halter said to the students.
Cairo Beverage, which makes Middle-Eastern/Mediterranean tea-based drinks, took home second place and $7,000. SwopShop, a mobile app that gives users a platform to buy, sell and trade belongings, finished third and earned $5,000.
Linectra also was a finalist in the 2016 Governor’s Business Plan Contest.
Heather Wentler of the Doyenne Group, Ben Stanley of gBETA and Jillana Peterson of Zendesk were the other judges.
