In its second year of operation, Madison B-cycle saw its annual membership increase from 471 to 2,150 and trips increase by nearly three-fold, making it the fastest-growing B-cycle system in the country, the organization announced today.
A total of 63,325 trips were taken via B-cycle in 2012, almost 45,000 more than in 2011. In addition, casual membership grew from 5,915 to 11,453.
“It’s clear that Madisonians are seeing the benefits of B-cycle as an accessible, active means of transportation,” Claire Hurley, Madison B-cycle Manager, said in a statement. “Growth during rush hours and in the university segment this year really reinforced that it’s catching on for commuters.”
This year, Madison B-cycle plans to add two more stations and 30 bikes to its existing 27 stations and 290 bikes.
