A company that provides clean, renewable and sustainable electricity for rural communities in Africa won the 2018 Governor’s Business Plan Contest, which concluded Wednesday during the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference held at Union South.
NovoMoto, based in Madison Wis., and created by two University of Wisconsin graduate engineering students, also won the Business Services category and earns cash and in-kind prizes.
“I’m very pleased and humbled to be here,” Co-Founder Mehrdad Arjmand said. “Hopefully we can have an impact on peoples’ lives.”
AmebaGone received top honors in the Life Sciences category, DataChat in IT and Shockray Self-Defense in Advanced Manufacturing. Meanwhile, Pyran won the inaugural Bright New Idea award.
The startups were part of the 12 finalists that presented to judges on Tuesday.
