SHINE Technologies has been selected to provide a 14 mega electron volt deuterium-tritium fusion system to the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA)’s Lithium Breeding Tritium Innovation (LIBRTI) program in 2027, the company announced today.

“Our partnership with UKAEA’s LIBRTI program is a key milestone for fusion energy,” SHINE Technologies CEO Greg Piefer said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with UKAEA to develop next-generation fusion solutions to help pave the way to clean, abundant energy.”

According to a release, the LIBRTI program aims to demonstrate controlled tritium breeding, a critical step for future fusion power plants.
