The proposed StartingBlock Madison project has been resuscitated, thanks to an undisclosed financial commitment from American Family Insurance, organizers announced today at Cento.
“Today is an exciting day for the entrepreneurial community in Madison,” Scott Resnick, Alder of District 8 and part of the original planning group, said. “American Family has committed significant resources to see that StartingBlock becomes a reality.”
According to a release, organizers hope American Family Insurance’s investment will attract additional private funding for the 50,000-square-foot “entrepreneurial hub” to be located in the Capitol East district of Downtown Madison.
Previously, StartingBlock’s only major (public) financial commitment was from the City of Madison, which committed $1.5 million in its 2015 budget.
Pending additional funding, construction will begin in the fall of 2015, with occupancy of the building targeted for 2016.
As previously reported, Capital Entrepreneurs, sector67 and gener8tor will move their operations into the building.
