The Virtual Foundry announced this week it’s seeking to raise $25,000 on Kickstarter for Filamet, its product that can create metallic items using a 3D printer.
According to a release, Filamet mixes traditional plastics with powdered metallurgy to make objects look and feel like metal. Filamet will allow customers to add brass, copper or bronze to their art and jewelry.
“We expect the materials side of 3D printing to account for a large portion of near-term product innovation,” Bradley Woods of The Virtual Foundry said in a statement.
Pledges range from $10-$310. As of press time, The Virtual Foundry had more than $12,000 in pledges.
The Virtual Foundry specializes in developing products for the creation of metallic objects without the use of a foundry or forge.
