In 2019, early stage companies in Wisconsin raised more than $450 million, which is a record for any single year in the state, according to a report by the Wisconsin Technology Council.
“On balance, our ecosystem continued to mature in 2019,” Wisconsin Technology Council President Tom Still said in a statement. “It’s hard to tell what 2020 holds for Wisconsin or any state, for that matter, due to COVID-19 and its overall effort on the economy. However, the solid foundation in place through 2019 should carry over in Wisconsin once the pandemic subsides.”
According to a release, the $450 million came from 123 deals, with the largest deals coming from SHINE Medical Technologies ($132 million), NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes ($75 million) and Redox ($36.1 million).
Along with the increase in deals, there was growth in median ($700,000) and average round sizes ($3.8 million).
Wisconsin early-stage companies raised $300.7 million in 2018.
